Emma Goldman was one of the proposers of anarcha-feminism that applied the principles of anarchism in its quest of feminism. Anarcha-feminism grew out of the inadequacies that were in the courses of anarchist and feminists movements in the process of handling social oppression in the society and the effects of patriarchy. She criticized the first-wave movement of feminism in their misunderstanding of emancipation that led to many inconsistencies in advanced women in the society.
Internal tyrannies are private patriarchal institutions that exist in the society while external tyrannies, on the other hand, are private institutions existing in a State. The private institutions in the society included institutions like marriage. The old form of marriage, which gets its setting and influence from the Bible, has been declined as an institution that emphasizes the superiority and the sovereignty of men over women for ages. It could be seen in the form of the total submission of the woman towards her husband as required by the society to his commands as well as his wishes. It in the end it promoted total dependence of the woman on the man in terms of his name and support. In terms of power relations, it made restrictions on women exist as a servant of a man and give birth to children in the society in the course of matrimonial relations. The institution of marriage had many deficiencies as women were bound by the chains of moral as well as the prejudice that tie her down in the natural sense.
